Phipps Conservatory and Botanical Gardens and Pittsburgh Ballet Theatre (PBT) are coming together like birds of a feather to present Swans in the Garden — a family-friendly event that will bring the beauty of Swan Lake to Phipps’ historic glasshouse. A timeless classic, this beloved ballet takes on an extra air of enchantment within the lush environs of Pittsburgh’s premier public garden.
Performed by a cast of Pre-Professional students from PBT School, this sampling of iconic vignettes from Swan Lake will give attendees the chance to see
the next generation of professional dancers, many of whom have graced the Benedum Center stage alongside PBT’s professional dancers. A tradition more than
100 years old, the production also features one of the most revered roles in ballet, a thrilling Tchaikovsky score, and a captivating showcase of movement
that will mesmerize audience members of every age.
Two performances of Swans in the Garden will be offered at 6 and 7:30 p.m. on Jan. 31. A meet-and-greet with the ballerinas will conclude each show with photo opportunities for kids. Before and after each event, registrants are invited to explore Phipps’ breathtaking Orchid and Tropical Bonsai Show displays, as well.
